About Jill McPherson

J ill McPherson, B.A. Sc. B. Ed., specializes in teaching mental health skills. She has a degree in Child Psychology from the University of Guelph and a Bachelor of Education from Brock University. She had done extensive training in Nonviolent Communication and Convergent Facilitation that has helped her feel more confident and significantly less stressed in all areas of her life.

Teaching Kindergarten to grade 8, along with Special Education and the Arts, has provided Jill with a great deal of professional training, knowledge, skills, and experience when it comes to addressing the many challenges involving children’s behaviours and needs.

Jill is a mother of 3 girls and a boy who are now 15, 19, 21 and 23. She credits them to be her greatest teachers in self awareness and personal growth. Jill admits that she thought her degrees and child psychology and education would fully equip her for motherhood. She was wrong.

Our children are our greatest facilitators in self development.
— Jill McPherson

On many occasions she found herself angry and frustrated with her kids and herself. What piece of the puzzle was missing in order to parent more peacefully? She discovered what that missing piece was as she sought the knowledge and skills she needed to create peace within herself and her home.

As Jill became aware of the many resources, people and modalities that offer peaceful ways to parent and live, she had a great need to share her insight with others. This led to her hosting her own TV show called Awakening Within on Rogers TV. After 3 seasons with Rogers, she left public television to work with a private producer. Her next seasons were aired on CHCH Hamilton and are available for viewing on her YouTube channel.

In 2015, Jill returned to school to take a diploma in Spiritual Direction. Jill studied religions, rituals and counsellor training. She visited many places of worship and took part in ceremonies and rituals from a variety of faith traditions. She is grateful for the added wisdom she gained from many spiritual leaders.

In 2016, Jill took her combined professional and personal experiences by offering personal counselling as well as leading discussion groups and being a keynote speaker to larger events.

In 2020, Jill decided to channel her passion towards supporting parents. COVID-19 resulted in many parents struggling to know how to effectively meet the needs of their children while meeting their own needs and maintaining a sense of self. Jill began offering online parenting workshops that were greatly welcomed and appreciated by many parents.

When Jill is not supporting parents online, Jill continues to teach Music, Drama and Mental Wellness strategies to students from Kindergarten to grade 3. She also offers “Hang Out” a mental health, skill-building gathering for students in grades 7 & 8.

Jill and her husband continue to face parenting challenges. Everyday brings opportunities to “walk the talk” and implement the strategies that Jill offers parents. She celebrates the challenges as she continues to awaken to peaceful parenting.
